Poulsbo Lions Achievements 2014
Poulsbo, WA
Hello, my name is Ken Rury and I'm a new member of the Poulsbo Lions club and attend the Noon Lions meeting. There is also an Evening Pride Club.
I volunteered to write about the Poulsbo Lions achievements for the 2015 Spring Convention, but wasn't told it was on only one topic until after I had done a bunch of research. So that doesn't go to waste this is what I learned about the Poulsbo Lions.
The Poulsbo Lions has 88 members including Evening Pride with another 85 in our 3 Alpha Leos programs (Kingston HS, Poulsbo HS, Poulsbo Middle School), the largest in the region.

After joining the Lions, I began to learn the other things that the club was involved in and one of the most important projects to me was the Seeing and Hearing Project, which I have already written about previously see link.
The following are the other projects I learned about:
The following are the other projects I learned about:
1. Runs the Fall Fling Dinner and Auction which raised over $21,000 with the money going toward Martha and Mary Nursing Home, NK boys and
Girls Club, as well as many other community projects.
2.
During the Christmas holidays
the Lions runs the Bell Ringer
fundraiser that helps provide Christmas food baskets for 100 families, and helps pay rent and utilities for
needy families year round. We do that by donating the money to the North Kitsap Fishline, the St. Vincent
DePaul Society, and Sharenet who perform those services. Bell Ringer is
always on the main page of the newspaper every week during the holiday and has
become a holiday tradition for the community.
3.
At the Poulsbo town festival, Viking
Fest, ran the Pancake Breakfast and
Strawberry Shortcake stand that the whole community enjoys and is a major fundraiser for the club to pay for youth
scholarships.
4.
Joins with the Rotary club each year to collect food for the North Kitsap Fishline and while we
often goad each other we know as a team we can accomplish much more and that is
what community is all about.
5.
We run a free Fishing Derby for
elementary school children called Hooked
on Fish not Drugs to promote a positive message and all the kids and
parents have fun.
6.
Sponsors some free Open Swims at the Community pool, which
was a huge success with 40 kids coming,
twice as many as normal.

7.
Sells the Kitsap Card (coupon book) with all the funds going back to the
community.
8. Keeps our community clean by participating in Adopt-a-Highway.

9. Helps NK Fishline thrift stores with furniture pickups as needed.
10. Sponsored two high school
students who qualified for national speech and debate championships, which
is first time in 20 years any students qualified.
11. Sponsors Evening Pride Branch club with 17 members that holds its own fund raisers and conducts its own projects as well as helping out on several of the parent club projects and fundraisers.
These are just a few of many activities that the Poulsbo Lions participate in every year. Here are a few more on the Poulsbo Lions Blog.
