Kitsap County Veterans Memorials and Museums

In celebration of the sacrifice our veterans have done for us I am detailing the memorials and museums that honor them. Northeast of Port Orchard is the Kitsap County Veterans Memorial Park at 985 Retsil Road SE, Port Orchard, WA with a marker honoring Kitsap residents who lost their lives in Vietnam. The Park was once Navy and shipyard Housing area for the workers in WWII. In the 1980s the area was turned into a park and this pair of 40MM Bofors guns which came from the USS Flint CL-97 (decommissioned in Bremerton in 1947) were placed here.

The Washington Veterans Home in Retsil at 1141 Beach Dr E, Port Orchard, WA was built in 1910 and is located on a 31-acre bluff with a view of Sinclair Inlet of Puget Sound. The Home serves 240 residents needing skilled-nursing care and 60 beds for transitional housing. There are two obelisks honoring veterans from the Civil War and Spanish-American wars.

Nearby is the Washington Veterans Home Cemetery in Retsil at 801-829 Henry Hanson Rd SE, Port Orchard, WA.

Port Orchard

At a flagpole at the traffic triangle in front of the City Hall there is a plaque dedicated to those who gave their lives in defense of our country and our flag dedicated May 30, 1833, American Legion.

At the Kitsap County Superior Courthouse foyer wall has a memorial with plaques honoring citizens who died during WWII.
